Atlético Madrid has been fined €30,000 and given a suspended sanction regarding a ban on travelling supporters by UEFA due to “racist and discriminatory behaviour” exhibited by their fans during the Champions League match against Arsenal in October.

According to UEFA sources, the charges against Atlético stem from incidents involving monkey gestures, noises, and Nazi salutes from the club’s supporters at the Emirates Stadium in London.

These actions were found to violate Article 14 (2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, with additional citations for fans throwing objects during the match.

Although the charges were serious, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) has suspended a one-match ticket sales ban for away fixtures for a probationary period of one year.

The immediate penalties include the €30,000 fine and an additional €10,000 for the incidents of object throwing.

Additionally, UEFA has imposed a €5,000 fine on Azerbaijan’s Qarabag FK Youth and mandated that the team play one home game behind closed doors due to the “racist and/or discriminatory behaviour” of fans during a UEFA Youth League match against Chelsea on November 5. This behind-closed-doors penalty is also suspended for a probationary year.
