Augsburg Shocks Bayern…

The top team in Germany isn’t necessarily the dominant force in Bavaria.

Bayern Munich suffered its first defeat of the Bundesliga season, falling 2-1 at home to their Bavarian rivals Augsburg on Saturday. The match concluded with Bayern’s Michael Olise striking the crossbar with the last kick of the game.

This marks the first time Bayern has failed to secure at least a point in the league since March 8 of last year, when they lost 3-2 at home to Bochum.

Prior to this match, Augsburg was only three points clear of the relegation zone and hadn’t celebrated a victory since early December.

Bayern Munich experienced a home defeat against Augsburg.

Michael Baum’s squad had to rally after Bayern defender Hiroki Ito opened the score with a header from a corner taken by Michael Olise in the 23rd minute.

Bayern squandered several chances, and the first half ended with Augsburg’s Robin Fellhauer hitting the crossbar.

In the second half, Augsburg pushed hard for an equalizer, which came in the 75th minute when Arthur Chaves managed to head home a corner that Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig couldn’t reach.

Han-Noah Massengo netted what turned out to be the winning goal just six minutes later, following a powerful run and cross from Dimitrios Giannoulis.
