Barcelona’s Guijarro to…

Barcelona midfielder Patri Guijarro has been ruled out for 12 weeks due to a fractured foot, as confirmed by the club on Thursday.

The 27-year-old sustained the injury during Wednesday’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Roma, when she was substituted in the 73rd minute.

This injury means she will be unavailable until 2026 and will miss several significant matches for both her club and the national team.

FC Barcelona, who have won all nine of their matches across competitions this season, face a challenging schedule in the coming months, including the Clásico against Real Madrid in Liga F on November 16, followed by a Champions League match against Chelsea on November 20.

Additionally, Guijarro will be absent from Spain’s two-legged UEFA Nations League semifinal against Sweden scheduled for next week.

This marks the second injury setback for Barça this week, following the news that striker Ewa Pajor will be sidelined for up to six weeks due to a knee injury.

With Pajor out, Barcelona’s squad is left without a designated No. 9, prompting attacking midfielder Kika Nazareth to take on that role against Roma.

However, the team has younger talent available to fill Guijarro’s spot, with players like Clara Serrajordi and Sydney Schertenleib expected to see increased playing time, along with defender Laia Aleixandri who can also step up.

Guijarro, who placed sixth in the Ballon d’Or voting last month, has made eight appearances this season, contributing two goals and three assists.

She has been instrumental in Barça’s recent success, helping the club secure six Liga F titles and three Champions League trophies.
