Beckham: Miami wont rush…

Inter Miami CF co-owner David Beckham has stated that the club will take its time in finding a new head coach following Javier Mascherano’s resignation.

Mascherano officially stepped down on Tuesday, citing personal reasons, effective immediately. In the interim, sporting director Guillermo Hoyos will take charge as head coach.

“Losing Javier was certainly a tough situation,” Beckham told CBS Sports. “He came off a successful season where we won our first championship. He’s an incredible individual and a fantastic coach, and the players really appreciated him. However, changes like this are part of football, and we need to move forward. We will find a new coach eventually, but for now, we need to let things stabilize. Owning a team always presents challenges.”

Mascherano departs after about a year and a half with the club, having joined in November 2024 to replace Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino. In his inaugural year, he guided the team to a historic MLS Cup victory in 2025, as well as a spot in the Leagues Cup final and the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals.

The team currently holds the third position in the Eastern Conference with a record of 3 wins, 3 draws, and 1 loss. They were recently eliminated by Nashville SC in the round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions Cup.

According to a source, Mascherano made the decision to leave the club over the weekend after a 2-2 draw against the New York Red Bulls at NU Stadium on April 11.

Hoyos has expressed his commitment to the club during this transitional time. “I am here for whatever the club requires, and my role has shifted recently,” he said in a mixed zone interview on Wednesday. “We’re ready to step up and support the team in this critical moment.”

Inter Miami is set to return to action this Saturday, facing the Colorado Rapids at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium.
