Belgian Sebastien…

Pocognoli spent part of his playing career in England with West Bromwich Albion and Brighton & Hove Albion, earning 13 caps for Belgium.

After Monaco dismissed him in early June, he said he had taken lessons on board and would take time to prepare for his next role with calm and determination.

He left after a single Ligue 1 season, finishing seventh, having been tempted from Union Saint-Gilloise the previous October. It was at the progressive Belgian club—like Hearts, part of the Jamestown orbit—where he built his reputation.

Following a 17-year career as a left-back in the top divisions of England, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, he worked with USG’s youth setup and the Belgian national program.

In 2024, he moved up to manage the senior team, winning the Belgian Super Cup almost immediately before guiding the club to its first league title since 1935 and into the Champions League frame.

Monaco soon came calling, attracted by Pocognoli’s bold style.

He is known to prefer an attacking 3-4-1-2, which he describes as dominant with and without the ball—high pressing, counter-pressing, and assured possession.

He sees players as artists and believes they deliver their best when they are mentally and physically comfortable.
