Bellingham Suspended for…

DORTMUND, Germany — Jobe Bellingham has received a suspension for Borussia Dortmund‘s upcoming two Bundesliga matches after his dismissal during the match against Freiburg.

The English midfielder, and younger brother of Real Madrid‘s Jude Bellingham, was shown a red card in the 53rd minute for a foul on Philipp Treu.

Dortmund’s goalkeeper Gregor Kobel had misplaced a pass, allowing Treu a clear chance on goal. At the time of the red card, Bellingham’s team was ahead 1-0, but the match ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw.

The German football federation announced on Monday that its sports court determined his actions constituted “unsporting behavior.”

This suspension marks the first time the 20-year-old Bellingham will miss a Bundesliga game since joining from Sunderland in June, following the path of his older brother Jude.

Bellingham will be sidelined for the match against Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, as well as the fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt on January 9.

This suspension reflects a mixed start to Bellingham’s career at the club where his brother transformed into a world-class midfielder.

He made his debut for Dortmund at the Club World Cup at the end of last season and scored in his second match, but has not found the net since, despite participating in all 23 games this season across competitions, starting 10 of them.
