Boardroom uncertainty…

  • West Ham supporters have long criticised Sullivan for his management of the club.

  • Alongside his late co-chair and former business partner David Gold (who died in 2023) and Baroness Karren Brady, Sullivan remains unpopular with some fans for moving from Upton Park to the former Olympic Stadium in 2016.

  • Brady resigned as vice-chair on 21 April to focus on her other business interests.

  • In June, Daniel Kretinsky (27%) and Gold (25.1%) announced an agreement under which Kretinsky—who also owns Royal Mail—would become the club’s largest shareholder with a 43% stake.

  • Other major shareholders—Tripp Smith, Daniel Harris and Terry Brown—were said to support the plan.

  • However, the deal was never finalised.

  • On 1 August, Gold—who first put her shares up for sale in October 2023—said the original agreement and other options had fallen through, and that she had agreed to sell her entire stake to a consortium led by Staveley.

  • Kretinsky reacted with dismay and said he was considering his options. Three days later, it was confirmed that Havrlant had purchased just over 2% of his shares.
