Botafogo Parts Ways with…

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazilian club Botafogo parted ways with Davide Ancelotti, the son of Brazil’s national team coach Carlo Ancelotti, on Wednesday, just five months after he took on his first full-time coaching position.

The 36-year-old was dismissed following Botafogo’s inability to retain their titles in both the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian league.

In the recent season, Botafogo finished sixth in the Brazilian league, trailing champions Flamengo by 16 points, and they were eliminated in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores by Ecuador’s Liga de Quito.

Botafogo announced in a statement that the decision came after discussions earlier in the day, though a successor has yet to be named.

Davide Ancelotti was appointed after owner John Textor dismissed Renato Paiva following the team’s early exit from the Club World Cup in July.

Having spent over a decade working alongside his father in various roles at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton, and Real Madrid, he also serves on Ancelotti’s staff with the Brazilian national team.
