Arsenal’s chances of claiming the Premier League title took a severe hit after a disappointing 2-1 loss to Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium.
Junior Kroupi opened the scoring for Bournemouth with a deserved goal in the 17th minute, while Viktor Gyökeres managed to equalize for Arsenal with a penalty kick.
However, Alex Scott quickly put Bournemouth back in the lead in the 74th minute, and Mikel Arteta’s visibly shaken team was unable to respond.
This defeat for Arsenal opens the door for Manchester City to cut the Gunners’ lead at the top from nine points to six if they win against Chelsea on Sunday.
Next Sunday, the two title contenders will face off at the Etihad Stadium in a match that now carries even greater importance after Arsenal’s recent downfall.
This marks Arsenal’s third consecutive domestic defeat, coming on the heels of their loss in the Carabao Cup final to City and an FA Cup exit to Southampton. This raises significant doubts about their prospects of securing their first league title in 22 years after finishing as runners-up for the last three seasons.
The final whistle was met with a chorus of boos from the home supporters.
