Tom Brady had some fun at the expense of Wrexham owners Rob Reynolds and Ryan Mac following Birmingham’s 2-0 win in the Championship on Sunday, quipping, “it’s always more enjoyable to beat your friends.”
The iconic NFL quarterback, who is a minority owner of Birmingham, is keen to see his team climb the divisions, much like Wrexham. Both clubs secured promotions from League One last season, but currently find themselves in contrasting positions within England‘s second tier this year.
On Sunday, Wrexham had an opportunity to narrow the gap to the playoff spots but fell short as Carlos Vicente and Christoph Klarer netted the only goals at St Andrew’s.
The loss leaves Phil Parkinson’s squad four points shy of Hull in seventh place. The top two teams earn automatic promotion to the Premier League, with teams finishing third to sixth competing for an additional spot in the playoffs come May.
After the match, Brady took to his Instagram Stories to share: “Big W. It’s always more fun to beat your friends.”
Brady became a minority owner of Birmingham in August 2023, just two years after Reynolds and Mac acquired Wrexham. Under their ownership, Wrexham has achieved three consecutive promotions, starting from outside the Football League.
Despite the defeat, Wrexham head coach Parkinson is holding onto hope for a playoff spot, insisting their chances are still alive, even after being outperformed by Birmingham.
He remarked, “This week has been challenging, but we’re not finished yet. While many may write us off, we remain optimistic in the dressing room. We’re just one win away from reigniting our momentum.”
Birmingham, currently sitting 15th in the standings, ended a run of three consecutive losses with their first win in five matches.

Birmingham manager Chris Davies felt his team could have scored even more than two goals in the match.
He stated, “I thoroughly enjoyed watching our performance today; we were excellent from start to finish. When the opponent doesn’t manage a shot on goal and you score twice, it could have easily been five. It’s crucial to bounce back after a streak of defeats, and I believe we delivered a significant performance today.”
