Caldentey Overlooked for…

Although she secured second place in this year’s Ballon D’Or rankings, Mariona Caldentey was notably excluded from the 2025 FIFPRO Women’s World 11 shortlist.

Her absence from this list, determined solely by player votes, stands out especially given her impressive performance last season.

In her debut season with Arsenal, she netted nine goals and provided two assists, playing a pivotal role in leading the team to Women’s Champions League success. Furthermore, her 14 goal contributions in the Women’s Super League (WSL) earned her the WSL Player of the Year Award.

In contrast, four of Caldentey’s teammates at Arsenal—Leah Williamson, Chloe Kelly, Alessia Russo, and Michelle Agyemang (currently on loan at Brighton)—have made the shortlist for the World 11.

Previously a key player for Barcelona, she also played an essential part in Spain‘s journey to the Euro 2025 final, starting all six matches and contributing two goals and two assists.

Players from La Roja such as Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí, Olga Carmona, Vicky López, Athenea del Castillo, and Patri Guijarro have made it to the World 11 shortlist.
