Marcelo Flores has cast doubt on Canada’s World Cup chances after suffering a non-contact injury during the second half of the Tigres Concacaf Champions Cup final against Toluca on Saturday.
While dribbling in the opponent’s box, Flores appeared to catch his foot on the pitch, causing him to tumble and clutch his right knee. The medical staff from Tigres assisted him off the field, as he was unable to bear weight on his injured leg.

Flores sustained the injury just 15 minutes after being brought on in the second half.
Canada’s coach, Jesse Marsch, included Flores in his 26-player World Cup roster announced on Friday. The team is led by Alphonso Davies, who is also racing against time to recover for Canada’s opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12 in Toronto.
Initially, Flores opted to represent Mexico internationally but later made a FIFA-approved switch to join the Canadian national team. Born in Canada to a Mexican father, he qualifies to represent both countries.
Marsch first summoned Flores during the January window, but he couldn’t participate as his transfer of association had not yet been finalized.
He made his Canada debut during the March international window, playing in matches against Iceland and Tunisia.
Canada will co-host the World Cup alongside the United States and Mexico. They are placed in Group B with Switzerland, Qatar, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, who knocked out Italy in the European playoffs.
