Carl Rushworth joins…

Coventry City have completed the permanent signing of 25-year-old goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from Brighton & Hove Albion after his successful loan spell at the CBS Arena. The fee is believed to be a club-record £22m, though neither club has confirmed the amount or the length of his long-term contract.

Rushworth started all 46 of Coventry’s league matches last season, keeping 17 clean sheets as they won the Championship and ended a 25-year wait to reach the Premier League. He never made a senior appearance for Brighton, spending seven years on their books and going out on six loans after joining from Halifax Town in 2019. Delighted to seal the move, Rushworth said he felt excited and relieved to be back with teammates at a club he enjoyed. Manager Frank Lampard welcomed the deal, calling Rushworth a model professional and a strong character who played a major part in last season’s promotion.
