MANCHESTER — Michael Carrick has indicated that “clarity is around the corner” as fans await his official announcement as Manchester United‘s head coach.
Carrick has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract to take on the role permanently, with an option for a third year.
According to sources at ESPN, the delay in the announcement is due to ongoing negotiations with Carrick’s coaching staff, including key assistants Steve Holland and Jonathan Woodgate, both of whom are expected to remain with the team.
An official confirmation could be made as soon as Friday, and Carrick suggested that supporters will soon receive positive news.
“I mentioned the end of the season, so we’re not far off,” he said at a news conference on Thursday. “Clarity is pretty much around the corner. At this point, I can’t provide any more details.”
United will conclude their season with a match against Brighton on Sunday. Carrick’s squad is assured of a third-place finish, while Brighton is vying for a spot in European competition.
The team will make the trip to the Amex Stadium without midfielder Casemiro, who is set to leave the club this summer. Carrick has decided to make his final home game against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford his last appearance in a United shirt.
“I made the decision last week that would be his last game,” Carrick confirmed. “He has been fantastic, and it felt like the right time for him to finish.”
“It felt like the right moment for Case [Casemiro]. There’s a balance to consider with this last game, and we’re conscious that our season isn’t over yet. We’re committed to respecting this final match and everything it represents.”
