Carrick: Man Utd…

Michael Carrick emphasized that Manchester United is determined not to lose Bruno Fernandes this summer, despite the ongoing speculation surrounding his long-term future at the club.

In a previous interview with Portuguese media last December, Fernandes hinted he might consider leaving at the end of the season, a year after he rejected a lucrative offer from Al Hilal.

The 31-year-old midfielder is under contract until at least 2027, although his deal includes a release clause of approximately £57 million.

However, Carrick insists that the club wants him to remain at Old Trafford.

“In terms of the club’s future, it’s tough for me to comment too much on that,” said Carrick after Fernandes provided two assists in the 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at home on Sunday.

“We definitely don’t want to lose Bruno. He is incredibly important to us, but for the summer and beyond, it’s a complex situation,” he added.

Fernandes’ two assists against Villa brought his total to 16 assists in the Premier League this season, surpassing David Beckham’s United record of 15 set in the 1999-2000 season.

His first assist came from a corner that allowed Casemiro to score the opening goal.

The Brazilian, who is expected to leave this summer, was greeted with chants of “one more year, one more year, Casemiro” from the home supporters.

However, Carrick stated that a reversal on Casemiro’s departure is unlikely.

“Once a decision is made, it often simplifies the situation as everyone understands it,” he explained. “Casemiro’s impact has been tremendous while I’ve been here, and he brings significant influence in crucial moments with goals. The connection he shares with the supporters is special, and I believe he appreciates that.”

The win was vital for United’s ambitions to secure a Champions League spot for next season, leaving Carrick’s team in third place with 54 points and eight matches remaining.
