Cristian Romero has dismissed speculation regarding a summer transfer, emphasizing that his primary focus is on helping Tottenham avoid relegation in the Premier League.
After returning from concussion protocols, Romero contributed to Spurs’ uplifting 3-2 victory over Atlético Madrid on Wednesday, which, unfortunately, was not enough to keep them in the Champions League following their elimination in the round of 16.
Atlético’s manager, Diego Simeone, expressed admiration for Romero on Tuesday, yet the Tottenham captain chose not to engage with transfer rumors during a mixed zone interview with Spanish media. Instead, he reiterated his commitment to enhancing the club’s performance in the Premier League.
“Honestly, I’m focused on our current situation,” Romero stated.
“I have great respect and affection for the club, and I want to finish the season as strongly as possible.
“We’ll see what happens later, but right now it’s crucial to regain our energy to support Spurs.”
Romero’s comments resonate with those of teammate Micky van de Ven, who recently criticized claims that Spurs players are indifferent to the team’s struggle for survival, as well as Pedro Porro, who has also played down rumors of a potential transfer back to Spain.
The Spurs delivered one of their strongest performances this season against Atlético, breaking an eight-match winless streak and securing Igor Tudor’s first victory as head coach.
After suffering a 5-2 defeat in Madrid, Tudor’s team showcased renewed spirit with a gritty 1-1 draw at Liverpool, followed by their European success, providing a morale boost ahead of their crucial match against relegation rivals Nottingham Forest this Sunday.
Porro remarked, “This match helped us regain some confidence despite the elimination.
“We’ve had a few disappointing matches in the Premier League, but our last one against Liverpool, where we secured a draw, left us with positive feelings, which is important as we move forward.”

Micky van de Ven refutes claims regarding Spurs players’ commitment.
“At this moment, I’m not considering a move back to Spain. I am truly happy here with my club.
“I, along with my teammates, am doing everything we can to help us out of this difficult situation. It’s challenging, and nobody wants to fight through these circumstances, but the key takeaway is that the team is battling, and we managed to secure a victory.
“It’s a bittersweet feeling, but it gives us confidence as we prepare for what will be a crucial match on Sunday.”
