Matthijs de Ligt has been seen practicing on the field as he intensifies his recovery from a persistent back injury while playing for Manchester United.
The 26-year-old defender started the season strongly but has since faced challenges, having been out of action since contributing to the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace on November 30.
De Ligt has not been included in any matchday squad since Michael Carrick assumed the coaching role, with Carrick revealing last month that there is uncertainty about whether the defender will return this season.
The manager noted that the back injury has been “challenging” for the Netherlands international, who has been working on remaining patient and optimistic during his recovery.
Although he will not participate in Monday’s match against Brentford, the club shared an encouraging update featuring images of De Ligt training under the guidance of the medical team.
The Premier League side stated: “De Ligt is engaging in individual training on the grass.”
“He is focused on returning to full fitness, but Michael Carrick has yet to provide a timeline for his return to action.”
In addition, center-back Harry Maguire will be back from a two-match suspension for the upcoming game, while Lisandro Martínez remains unavailable due to suspension.
Leny Yoro missed the recent 1-0 victory against Chelsea due to injury and will be evaluated, while Patrick Dorgu is continuing his rehabilitation from a hamstring issue.

“Overall, things are managing well,” Carrick commented about the injury situation at United.
“A few minor knocks and issues, which are to be expected after games.
“Patrick is making good strides toward returning to training, which is encouraging news.
“Yoro is still being assessed, and while there’s a chance he could return, it’s not guaranteed at this point.”
