De Zerbi Departs Marseille…

Head coach Marseille, Roberto De Zerbi, has parted ways with the club following a heavy 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.

De Zerbi, who previously managed Brighton, guided OM to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 last season. He has been linked to the managerial role at Tottenham, should the London club decide to let go of Thomas Frank.

After the defeat, Marseille now sits in fourth place, 12 points behind PSG, and has already been eliminated from this season’s Champions League. The club issued a statement explaining that a decision was made to change the first team coach following discussions among the owner, president, director of football, and De Zerbi.

“This was a difficult decision made collectively, after careful consideration of the club’s best interests, to meet the sporting challenges as the season draws to a close.”

“Olympique de Marseille would like to extend its gratitude to Roberto De Zerbi for his dedication, commitment, professionalism, and seriousness, which were especially highlighted during the team’s second-place finish in the 2024-25 season.”

“The club wishes him the very best in his future endeavors.”

During a meeting on Tuesday with Marseille president Pablo Longoria, sporting director Mehdi Benatia, and De Zerbi, it became evident that the relationship between the former coach and his players had deteriorated, according to sources close to ESPN.
