Roberto de Zerbi says Tottenham are unsure whether forward Richarlison will remain at the club, as the player has given mixed signals about his future.
The 29-year-old Brazil international scored a stoppage-time winner as 10-man Spurs defeated Chelsea 2-1 in a high-profile friendly in Sydney.
Afterward, De Zerbi was asked if Richarlison — now into the final year of his contract — could leave this summer.
De Zerbi said he values Richarlison both as a footballer and a person, praising his attitude and professionalism, but stressed the club must ultimately respect the player’s wishes.
Pressed on the forward’s intentions, he explained that Richarlison has alternated between wanting to stay and exploring a move, adding that further discussions are needed and that there is no issue with the player, whom he described as a great character.
The Italian also highlighted Richarlison’s professionalism and influence during a turbulent campaign in which he scored 12 goals.
He insisted Richarlison remains important to Spurs, noting that proven strikers of his profile are hard to find, whereas any new signing would carry uncertainty.
Those 12 goals, De Zerbi added, reflected the forward’s instinct and know-how rather than good fortune.
He said Richarlison is widely admired by team-mates, the club and staff for his daily work ethic and consistently strong performances.
The uncertainty arrives amid Spurs’ record £237m transfer window, with the club still pursuing two additional attackers.
One target is understood to be Manchester City’s Savinho, while Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has also been linked.
