McInnes has already brought in 12 new players, aims to add a couple more, and expects one or two departures before the transfer window closes next week.
“We’re still a work in progress,” McInnes admitted.
“We’ve really missed Youssef [Chermiti, currently injured], the kind of striker who can stretch defences.”
“I didn’t expect perfection at this point. It hasn’t been the start we wanted—others at Rangers have had tough openings too—but we’re committed to seeing this through. It’s how we finish that matters, and I still believe we’ll be successful here.”
After Thursday’s game, McInnes acknowledged his side lacks a clear style—whether to dominate possession, counter, or go more direct.
“My teams have always had a clear identity,” said the former Aberdeen, Hearts, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone manager.
“I want us to put opponents under much more defensive pressure, and we’re not doing that right now.”
“We’ve got good technicians; we just need to be a bit calmer on the ball and confident in our approach. We’re capable of it, and one or two more additions should help us take shape.”
“I want us to press high, and if we’re going to do it, we have to do it fully—win second balls, win our duels, force turnovers, and really impose ourselves on the game.”
