Donovan Set to Make…

Landon Donovan, a legendary figure in the United States men’s national soccer team, is set to make his return to the pitch at this summer’s $1 million winner-take-all The Soccer Tournament (TST), as announced on Wednesday.

Donovan will be joining Sneaky FC, a team organized by his former LA Galaxy teammate and former MLS MVP Mike Magee, for the 7-on-7 competition taking place at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, from May 27 to June 1.

The 44-year-old last played professionally for the San Diego Sockers in the Major Arena Soccer League in 2019. He boasts an impressive record, finishing his career with 157 caps for the USMNT—making him the second-most capped player—and is tied with Clint Dempsey for the most goals scored for the national team, with 57.

“I’m thrilled to have the chance to compete in The Soccer Tournament and to represent Sneaky FC alongside such a talented group of players,” Donovan expressed in a statement.

“The tournament format is distinctive and incredibly competitive, and with many skilled players taking part, it promises to be an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators alike. I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Now in its fourth year, TST has attracted several high-profile players, including Sergio Agüero, Jermaine Jones, Nani, and Sebastian Giovinco, as well as former USWNT stars like Hope Solo, Ali Krieger, Carli Lloyd, and Heather O’Reilly.
