The club said in a statement on its website that its HMRC liabilities will be settled by the end of August, once the takeover is completed.
It added that the prospective owners underwent a year of vetting and financial checks, which the league approved in writing on 1 May.
However, following the recent reversal of the Northfleet Harbourside development, the league has raised concerns about the club’s financial sustainability, the debts introduced into the club, and how those debts are being managed.
The league has given the owners until 10:00 BST on 19 August to resolve the situation and demonstrate this to the league.
The club noted that players, staff, and supporters have endured several setbacks over the past week through no fault of their own, and asked for understanding and care while the ownership matter is resolved.
It concluded that everyone has put in an excellent pre-season and looks forward to resolving the issues and showing the results of that hard work throughout the campaign.
