Thomas Tuchel, the manager of England, and Scotland‘s Steve Clarke expressed their criticisms following a lengthy and extravagant World Cup draw ceremony held in Washington D.C. on Friday.

This monumental draw, the largest ever, stretched over two and a half hours, featuring performances by Robbie Williams, a FIFA Peace Prize award presented to U.S. President Donald Trump, and ball-drawing tasks performed by sporting icons such as Tom Brady and Shaquille O’Neal.

“I do not like it,” Tuchel remarked to BBC Sport afterward. “We could have easily done without all of this.”

“It’s not something I personally need. Yet, I understand that it’s a significant event that aims to be entertaining.”

“I realized it wasn’t about a deep understanding of football today; it focused on the show and entertainment.”

Clarke, also experiencing his first World Cup draw like Tuchel, echoed the sentiment that the event lasted far longer than expected.

“It took an excessive amount of time to get to the draw,” he told talkSPORT.

Scotland’s challenging Group C includes Brazil and Morocco

“While here, we experienced the glamour and excitement of the draw. Personally, I felt it went on for much longer than it should have, especially considering we were only present for the draw itself.”

England has been placed in Group L alongside Croatia, Panama, and Ghana, while Scotland faces a tough challenge in Group C against Brazil, Morocco, and Haiti.

The tournament, featuring 48 teams, will take place next summer across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
