Bruno Fernandes has set a new record by achieving his 21st assist of the Premier League season.
The playmaker for Manchester United assisted Patrick Dorgu‘s opening goal in a 3-0 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion on the last day of the 2025-26 season.
Fernandes delivered a fantastic corner kick that was powerfully headed in by Dorgu in the 33rd minute. The United players surrounded him in celebration as they realized the assist record had been surpassed.
Before this match, Fernandes had equaled the previous record of 20 assists, originally held by Arsenal‘s Thierry Henry and Manchester City‘s Kevin De Bruyne. With this 21st assist, Fernandes now holds the record for the most assists in a single Premier League season.
This achievement also earned him the Premier League Golden Playmaker award, which he received following his team’s victory on Sunday.
The Portugal international had previously secured the Premier League Player of the Season accolade, along with the FWA Footballer of the Year award, earlier this year.
Beaming with pride, Fernandes shared his thoughts on the accomplishment:
“It’s fantastic. I’m very happy about this, and it’s a proud moment for me,” he told Sky Sports. “Honestly, I didn’t think much about it until I got close to the record. Luckily, today, I was able to achieve that.
“I was fortunate to make that assist. Jonny [Evans] believed more in our set-piece for Patrick than I did, as I wasn’t sure he would score with his head. While I’m glad I got my assist, the most important thing is that we won and finished the season strong.”
Ryan Giggs still holds the overall Premier League record for most assists, with 162. De Bruyne follows with 119, Cesc Fabregas at 111, Wayne Rooney at 103, and Frank Lampard has 102 assists.
On the last Premier League matchday, Bryan Mbeumo netted United’s second goal at Brighton, before Fernandes added a third goal to end the game.
Among his current teammates, Fernandes has provided the most assists to Casemiro, with six goals set up for the Brazilian. He has also assisted Benjamin Sesko four times and two times each for Matheus Cunha, Dorgu, Mbeumo, and Mason Mount.
