Bruno Fernandes has expressed his desire to have won more trophies during his tenure at Manchester United, while remaining hopeful about the club’s future under the management of Michael Carrick.
Fernandes, recognized as the Premier League Player of the Season in May, has secured an FA Cup and a League Cup since joining Old Trafford.
“I certainly wanted to win more; it’s not quite what I envisioned for myself and for the club,” Fernandes shared with ESPN.
“Nonetheless, I’ve experienced some great moments. We reached several finals, winning a few and losing some.”
“My aspiration has always been to compete for the top titles, and the Premier League is a significant part of that. That dream still burns within me, and I hope to achieve it.”
Thanks to a strong second half of the season, United finished third, securing a spot in the Champions League for the first time since the 2023-24 season.
“Being in the Champions League is crucial; it’s the main competition where you face the top teams worldwide in Europe,” Fernandes remarked.
“I want to perform at that level and prove I can compete with the best.”
This revival in form has been largely attributed to Carrick, who took over as interim head coach in January after replacing Ruben Amorim, going on to win 12 out of 16 matches before being appointed permanently in May.
“He injected a very positive energy into the team and focused on maintaining a positive mindset during what was a challenging coaching transition,” Fernandes noted.
“He introduced new ideas and a different style of play, which was vital for some players to step up and reclaim their roles. The results reflect that positive change, and we hope to sustain it moving forward.”

Fernandes’ teammate Matheus Cunha also praised Carrick’s influence.
“It’s been remarkable,” the forward told ESPN. “He makes a significant impact on us. When we look at him, we are motivated to achieve the same results he has secured.”
“He embodies the spirit of Manchester, conveying what it means to play at Old Trafford, win games, and experience the fans’ energy, which motivates both the players and the team through thick and thin.”
“He emphasizes that Manchester [United] requires a special kind of adrenaline and that we must take risks. I find it beautiful, especially as we seek to reclaim those glorious moments […] to revive that era he is so familiar with and has experienced so profoundly.”
“He brings this to us emotionally, genuinely inspiring us to lay the groundwork for our own success.”
