CORAL GABLES, Fla. — FIFA announced on Wednesday that it has received over 500 million ticket requests for the upcoming World Cup.
According to the soccer governing body, aside from fans in the host nations—United States, Mexico, and Canada—the highest number of requests came from supporters in Germany, England, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and Colombia.
FIFA is selling tickets for as much as $8,680 each. In response to backlash, FIFA stated last month it would offer $60 tickets for each match to the 48 national federations participating, which will distribute them to fans who attended prior games.
The most requested game during the latest sales phase, which lasted from December 11 to Tuesday, was Colombia vs. Portugal on June 27 in Miami Gardens, Florida. This was followed by Mexico vs. South Korea on June 18 in Guadalajara, Mexico; the final on July 19 in East Rutherford, New Jersey; the opener featuring Mexico against South Africa on June 11 in Mexico City; and a second-round match on July 2 in Toronto.
“We understand the significance of this tournament to people across the globe, and our only disappointment is that we can’t accommodate every fan in the stadiums,” stated FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “That’s why we are dedicated to providing multiple avenues for fans to engage with the FIFA World Cup 2026, offering a variety of fan experiences beyond the stadium—both in person and online—ensuring that as many individuals as possible can enjoy what will be the largest sporting event ever held.”
FIFA plans to inform applicants of their ticket status no earlier than February 5, with allocations made randomly for matches that see a surge in interest.
