The Recopa features the current champions of the Libertadores and Sudamericana.

Established in 1989, the Recopa has undergone various formats over the years, including matchups like Libertadores champions versus Supercopa champions or Libertadores champions versus Conmebol champions, especially during its initial years, which had a break from 1999 to 2002.

The Rubro-Negro aims to replicate their 2020 success when they claimed the Recopa title against Independiente del Valle.

However, in 2023, the Ecuadorian team avenged their loss by winning the trophy at Maracanã after a penalty shootout.

In their most recent outing, Flamengo secured a 2-1 victory over Botafogo in the Cariocão, with coach Filipe Luís opting for a mixed lineup.

As a result, for this match, Varela, Luiz Araújo, and Carrascal replaced Emerson Royal, Evertton Araújo, and Pedro respectively from the last Brasileirão match, which also ended in a 2-1 win against Vitória.
