Darren Fletcher has expressed that he is “prepared” for the possibility of being appointed head coach of Manchester United until the end of the season.
Fletcher is set to lead his second match for United when Brighton comes to Old Trafford for the FA Cup on Sunday.
He is among the candidates, including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and other unnamed individuals, being considered for the role until season’s end.

Fletcher stated that he has “enjoyed” his time in the role and feels ready to accept the position, whether at United or elsewhere.
“I’ve always maintained a relaxed attitude about my future,” remarked Fletcher.
“I’ve genuinely enjoyed it. I’ve tried to make the most of it.
“I believe I’m quite well prepared. I’ve always aimed to ready myself for a managerial role someday. I thought it could be an avenue where I might excel and find fulfillment.
“I wouldn’t say I’m desperate for it, though.
“I want to ready myself to be a manager, and if that opportunity arises, I’ll be equipped to take it on.
“However, if it doesn’t happen, I’ll be perfectly content continuing as the under-18s coach—I’m happy with that position.”
The recent 2-2 draw against Burnley marked Fletcher’s first experience in senior management.
He received the call-up on Monday, following the decision to dismiss Ruben Amorim.
The former Scotland midfielder will stand on the sidelines against Brighton, but his long-term future remains uncertain.
“I was taken aback when I was offered the chance for the two games—I wasn’t expecting it,” said Fletcher.
“I don’t typically think along those lines. It wasn’t on my radar, but when presented with the opportunity, I know I can rise to the occasion.
“I’m comfortable in this role. I’m familiar with the environment, and I have faith in myself. I feel I’ve gained a lot from my five years here.”
Sources have informed ESPN that United hope to provide clarity on the managerial position by early next week.
Solskjaer recently met with CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, while Carrick had a face-to-face discussion last week.
“Ultimately, this isn’t my decision; the club must act in the manner they believe is best,” Fletcher added. “Those at the top must have a clear plan for the future success of Manchester United, and I’m confident they will determine that.”
