Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro has died at 25 after collapsing during a game in Portugal.
Castro fell to the pitch in the first half of third-tier Real Sport Clube’s friendly against top-flight Estrela de Amadora at the Estadio das Seixas in Lisbon on Saturday.
The Lisbon Football Association (AFL) confirmed he died that morning during the pre-season fixture.
Real Sport Clube described the midfielder as a cherished member of their sporting family.
They said Castro was far more than a player—an integral presence who left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Raised in Thetford, Norfolk, Castro joined West Brom in 2021 and made his first-team debut against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.
He featured again later that season versus Swansea before heading to Burton Albion on loan.
West Brom said they were devastated by the news and will honour Castro with a round of applause in the 25th minute of Sunday’s Championship match against Burnley, with players also set to wear black armbands.
A product of Sporting Clube’s academy, he also represented several English sides—including Cambridge City, York City and Notts County—before returning to Portugal last summer.
