AMSTERDAM — Ajax Amsterdam has decided to part ways with coach Oscar Garcia following a challenging season that saw the Dutch club finish fifth in the Eredivisie.
In their official announcement, Ajax stated that they “mutually agreed to terminate the coach’s contract,” which had one year still remaining.
Garcia, 53, stepped in as head coach in March, taking over from Fred Grim, who returned to his position at the Ajax academy.
Grim had taken over the first-team coaching role after John Heitinga was dismissed last November, following the resignation of Francesco Farioli in May.
Ajax’s technical director, Jordi Cruijff, commented, “Oscar joined Ajax U23 during a challenging time. Shortly after, we needed his support with the first team, which was also a difficult situation.”
“We appreciate his contributions and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
