Marc Guéhi described his FA Cup experience as “crazy” after a tumultuous year in the tournament.
The England defender led Crystal Palace to a final victory against Manchester City a year prior.
In January, he faced one of the biggest upsets in FA Cup history when defending champions Palace were eliminated by non-league Macclesfield Town.
Later that month, he transferred to City and is gearing up for another final as Pep Guardiola’s squad prepares to take on Chelsea this Saturday.
“It feels like my football journey has been wild,” Guéhi remarked.
“There’s no consistency; it’s quite unpredictable. But honestly, it’s quite enjoyable. I’m grateful for the chance to participate in such a prestigious final again.
“For this club, winning trophies, especially the FA Cup, holds great significance. I’m honored to be a part of it.”
Guéhi will face one of his former teams at Wembley, where his career began at Chelsea.
Although he had limited chances at Stamford Bridge, the 25-year-old insists he has nothing to prove against his old club.
“That’s not my mindset,” he stated.
“I understand why some might think that way, but I carry nothing but gratitude towards Chelsea.
“I don’t feel entitled to any opportunities. My decision to leave was based on reality.
“I believe the club recognized that, especially after I had completed a successful loan at Swansea.”
“I was quite successful there, and the club had just captured the Champions League. For a young player to step in and claim they deserve playing time would be inappropriate.”
Guéhi has had a strong start to his time at City, playing a crucial role in the team’s pursuit of catching Arsenal at the top of the league, despite a recent blunder that led to a 3-3 draw against Everton.
“Mistakes are inevitable in football,” Guéhi acknowledged.
“Fostering a sense of unity is vital in any situation. It’s a remarkable quality of our group.
“During tough times, you really see people’s true characters and the strength of our relationships. It’s when things get challenging that we showcase our bond and what it means to each of us.”
