Manchester City has announced that Josko Gvardiol has sustained a leg fracture and is scheduled for surgery this week.
The Croatian defender was injured during the second half of Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.
Tests conducted on Monday confirmed Gvardiol has a “tibial fracture of his right leg” and an operation will be necessary.
While there is no definitive timeline for his recovery, the 23-year-old is anticipated to be out of action for several months.
A club statement released on Monday stated: “Manchester City can confirm that Josko Gvardiol has suffered a tibial fracture to his right leg.

This injury occurred during the second half of Sunday’s Premier League match against Chelsea. The defender is scheduled for surgery later this week and ongoing evaluations will determine the full extent of his injury and expected recovery time.”
Gvardiol’s injury poses a considerable setback for Pep Guardiola as City aims to close the gap with Arsenal atop the Premier League standings.
Guardiola already finds himself without John Stones, who has played just one league match since August, and Rúben Dias, who also sustained an injury in the match against Chelsea.
