Haaland: I Need to Score…

Erling Haaland acknowledged the need to “improve” his performance for Manchester City, having netted only two penalties in his last eight Premier League matches, emphasizing that he has no excuses for his recent dip in form.

The 25-year-old converted a stoppage time penalty to secure a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, following an assist to Bernardo Silva for the equalizer in the 84th minute.

Despite his crucial contribution against Arne Slot’s squad, Haaland’s pursuit of an open-play goal in the league has not been fulfilled since a 2-0 victory over West Ham on December 20. The Norway international, who currently leads the Premier League Golden Boot race with 21 goals this season, admits he needs to elevate his game.

“I haven’t netted enough goals this year, and I recognize that I need to do better,” Haaland stated to reporters.

“I must be sharper and improve in all areas; this is something I have to focus on. I have to push on because everyone deserves and expects that from me.”

“I don’t wish to dwell on why I haven’t been at my best—I believe there are no excuses. Fatigue mostly resides in the mind. The schedule is demanding, but for me, it’s crucial to remain fit and avoid injuries. That’s paramount, and I need to be ready to support the team.”

Man City’s thrilling comeback against Liverpool keeps title hopes alive

With City’s victory at Anfield, they completed a league double over Liverpool for the first time since the 1936-37 season, narrowing the gap to league leaders Arsenal to six points.

Mikel Arteta’s side is set to visit the Etihad on April 18 in what could be a decisive title clash. Haaland expressed that City still believes they can catch Arsenal with a win against Fulham on Wednesday, bringing the gap to three points.

“We’ve seen in the past that the title race is not concluded until the final whistle,” Haaland said. “Right now, I need to shower and board the bus, focus on recovery, eat well, and prepare for Fulham, because there are still many matches ahead.”
