Jordan Henderson has departed from Brentford, having mutually agreed to terminate his contract. This opens the possibility for Chelsea to secure his signature.
Although Henderson had one year remaining on his contract at Brentford, the club confirmed his exit on Wednesday.
UK reports indicate that Chelsea has been interested in signing Henderson, in addition to fellow experienced England international Danny Welbeck.
“I leave Brentford feeling very grateful for the opportunity the club has given me, along with the support and care extended to my family from day one,” Henderson expressed.
Phil Giles, the director of football, mentioned that although Henderson signed a two-year contract upon joining from Ajax last summer, there were always plans to discuss his future following the World Cup, where he represented England.
“After those conversations, it became evident that Jordan wanted to explore new opportunities in the later stages of his career,” Giles stated. “We assured him that if that was his desire, we would not hinder his progress.”
Brentford manager Keith Andrews noted, “Considering Jordan’s aspirations and the current state of our squad, we both agreed it was the appropriate moment for Jordan to continue his career elsewhere.”
