The Welsh icon was on hand Wednesday for the launch of the new ‘All You Need Is Rush’ exhibition at Anfield’s LFC Museum.
Rush has contributed memorabilia for display, including all 16 balls from his career hat-tricks, his two European Golden Boots, and three match-worn FA Cup final-winning shirts.
“It feels tremendous. I found it quite emotional,” Rush said.
“When you stop playing, you forget about what you’ve achieved. You have bin bags in the loft and to get it all out, get it cleaned up and share it with Liverpool Football Club is great.”
Visitors are greeted by a hologram of the former striker, then guided along a comic book-style timeline of Rush’s glittering career spread across the museum walls.
Screens play highlights of the ex-forward’s most iconic goals, and the walls feature quotes from football greats including Diego Maradona, Sir Kenny Dalglish and Bob Paisley.
The exhibition officially opens to the public on Friday, 14 August, marking 30 years since the last of the striker’s 660 appearances for the club.
Club historian and curator Mark Platt said: “I’m a Liverpool fan myself, growing up in the eighties, it’s a bit of a cliche, but Rushy was everyone’s hero back then, scoring all the goals.
“I’ve known him for quite a few years now with the club but to work with all this memorabilia that he’s collected, it’s been a labour of love for myself.”
