Derry City manager Tiernan Lynch insisted it is still all to play for after his side slipped to a narrow 3-2 defeat to CSKA Sofia at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia in their Europa League first qualifying round tie.
Ioannis Pittas produced a superb opener before Liam Boyce hit back to level for Derry.
Bruno Jardao put the Bulgarian side back in front with a fine strike from outside the area, and Pittas later doubled his tally.
James Olayinka then reduced the deficit to keep Derry firmly in the contest.
Lynch felt his team were much improved after the interval, disappointed by the goals conceded but encouraged by how they grew into the game, and believes the tie remains wide open.
He praised CSKA’s quality and ball retention, yet felt Derry finished the stronger.
The Candystripes host CSKA Sofia at the Brandywell on 16 July, and the Derry boss is intent on beginning preparations immediately.
Taking heart from the chances created, Lynch believes his side can overturn the deficit in front of their home support.
He added that they will review the match to identify areas for improvement.
They will also highlight what worked well and put together a plan for next Thursday night.
