Inter Milan have secured the Serie A championship, triumphing over Parma with a 2-0 victory at the San Siro on Sunday.

Marcus Thuram found the back of the net just before half-time, striking an angled shot that went just out of reach of Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. Later, veteran midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, at 37, doubled the lead in the 80th minute after receiving a pass from Serie A top scorer Lautaro Martinez, who made his return from injury as a substitute.

The fans erupted in cheers as full-time neared, and players celebrated their title win by racing across the pitch after the final whistle.

Interestingly, Thuram was born in Parma, where his father, Lilian Thuram, once played.

“Since joining Inter, I’ve felt the unity within the team both on and off the pitch, and that’s our greatest asset,” Thuram stated.

Under Cristian Chivu’s guidance, Inter had been eyeing the championship for a while, knowing that a draw against Parma would be enough to secure their second title in three years.

After finishing as runners-up to Napoli last season, Inter’s 21st Serie A title solidifies their position as the second most successful team in the league’s history, trailing only Juventus, who holds 36 titles.

This championship also marks Chivu’s first senior trophy as a coach; he previously played for Inter from 2007 to 2014 and took over managerial duties in June 2025, succeeding Simone Inzaghi after four seasons.

During the joyous celebrations, Inter midfielder Nicolò Barella reflected on the highs and lows of football. “That’s life; it presents challenges,” he said. “Last season, we were so close to everything and ended up with nothing. Yet in life, you must always rise again.”

The triumph comes after Inter’s disappointing exit from the Champions League playoff stage against Bodo/Glimt in February. Inter now has the chance to secure a domestic double by defeating Lazio in the Coppa Italia final on May 13. The last time the club achieved both league and cup victories in the same season was in 2011 under coach Jose Mourinho.
