Inter Milan are in advanced negotiations to sign Tottenham and England full-back Djed Spence in a deal starting at £25.6m (€30m).
The 26-year-old has become a top target for the Serie A champions after enhancing his reputation at the World Cup, where he made eight appearances. Though criticised early on, he went on to start and impress in England’s semi-final defeat to Argentina.
At club level, Spence started 23 Premier League matches last season as Spurs narrowly avoided relegation, and he has made 85 appearances since joining from Middlesbrough for £20m in July 2022. Tottenham have begun identifying potential replacements.
Manager Roberto de Zerbi said in July he wanted to convince Spence to stay and views him as central to his plans. However, Pedro Porro—described by De Zerbi as the best in the world in his position—currently holds the right-back spot.
Spence’s versatility is also a factor: he played six times at left-back at the World Cup and featured 32 times on the left for Tottenham last season. Spurs strengthened that side earlier this summer by signing Scotland’s Andy Robertson, 32, from Liverpool.
