Interim boss Fletcher…

Darren Fletcher has expressed uncertainty regarding Manchester United‘s future plans for him as he prepares to coach his second match as interim manager.

Fletcher was on the sidelines for the 2-2 draw against Burnley on Wednesday, following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.

He is set to lead the team once more when Brighton visits Old Trafford for the FA Cup on Sunday. However, the 41-year-old has indicated that there have been “no discussions” regarding his future beyond this match.

The club is still considering various potential candidates for the position until the summer, including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

“I communicate with Omar [Berrada] and Jason [Wilcox]; that’s how the process unfolds,” Fletcher stated. “My focus has been on preparing the team for these two matches. There has been no discussion about my future.”

“Honestly, Jason and Omar have entrusted me with the responsibility to manage these two games, make my own choices, lead the team, and prepare them, and that’s precisely what I’ve been doing.”

Fletcher expects to have the same squad available to face Brighton as he did against Burnley.

It has been deemed too early for the return of either Bryan Mbeumo or Noussair Mazraoui, as one of them will be eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations when Cameroon faces Morocco on Friday.

Following the draw against Burnley, United is aiming for their first victory since Boxing Day.

However, Fletcher believes the outcome at Turf Moor could have been different if Kyle Walker had been sent off for an apparent stamp on Patrick Dorgu.

“From Walker’s angle, it didn’t look great, but I know him as a person, and I hope he intended to play the ball,” Fletcher reflected. “Personally, I feel VAR should have reviewed that incident. They checked the disallowed goal, which was ludicrous, so they should have scrutinized this situation as well. Those two incidents likely had a significant impact on the game, highlighting the influence of such decisions.”
