Iran sends peace message…

After their World Cup group match against Belgium at Los Angeles Stadium, Iran left a note wishing that “peace, respect and friendship” prevail among all nations.

The handwritten message was placed in their dressing room following a 0-0 draw in their second Group G fixture.

Iran are taking part in the tournament while their country and the United States — co-hosts with Canada and Mexico — are in talks to end their war.

Released by the Football Federation of Iran (FFIRI), the note said the spirit of the nation endures “from ancient Persia to today’s Iran.”

“We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honour, and leave with dignity,” it continued.

“Thank you, Los Angeles, for your hospitality.

And thank you to every Iranian who gave their heart, voice and soul for Iran across these 180 minutes.

May peace, respect and friendship prevail among all nations.”

The message also referenced an attack on a girls’ school in Minab, where at least 168 people were killed on the war’s first day.
