GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Colombian superstar James Rodríguez, who spent last week in the hospital due to severe dehydration, has returned to his MLS team, Minnesota United FC, to resume his journey back to game readiness.
The club announced that Rodríguez attended a supervised practice session for his return to activity. His full reintegration into team training will be closely supervised by the medical staff.
Rodríguez participated in an exhibition match against France on March 29, where he began experiencing symptoms of dehydration. He was subsequently hospitalized two days later for monitoring and IV fluid therapy. After a three-day hospital stay, he has been recovering at home under continued medical supervision, as confirmed by the team.
According to Minnesota United’s medical staff, there is “no clinical or laboratory evidence of rhabdomyolysis,” which is a severe condition caused by muscle breakdown that can occur due to overexertion.
Last week, the Colombian Football Federation released a statement regarding Rodríguez’s positive prognosis for recovery. Colombia’s opening match in the World Cup is set for June 17 against Uzbekistan.
Rodríguez rose to fame during the 2014 World Cup, capturing the Golden Boot award as the tournament’s top scorer with six goals in five matches. He subsequently joined Real Madrid, where he spent six seasons, and has also played for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and Everton in the Premier League.
Since signing with Minnesota United two months ago, Rodríguez has featured in only two out of six matches with the club.
