James Rodríguez will become a free agent at the end of the year, as sources indicate his contract with León will expire.
The Colombian international’s current deal is set to finish on December 31, and the Mexican club has decided not to extend his contract.
Since joining León in January after departing Spanish club Rayo Vallecano, the former Real Madrid and Everton midfielder has contributed five goals and eight assists in 32 matches across all competitions.
At 34 years old, Rodríguez has not dismissed the possibility of remaining in Liga MX next season, as several clubs in Mexico have shown interest in acquiring him.
Rodríguez’s camp is also considering a move to the MLS. However, with the league starting in late February, this option might not be ideal for him, as he seeks regular playing time in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
He is anticipated to lead Colombia as captain in the World Cup hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States next year.
A Golden Boot recipient at the 2014 World Cup, Rodríguez has played for six teams since departing Real Madrid in 2020, including São Paulo, Olympiacos, Al-Rayyan, and Everton.
