Spain international Jenni Hermoso fulfilled her dream of winning a title in Mexico, leading Tigres Femenil to victory in the 2025 Apertura tournament on Sunday.
Tigres Femenil narrowly defeated America 1-0, securing a 4-3 aggregate victory to claim the 2025 Apertura trophy.
The 35-year-old Hermoso, who faced controversy from the ‘Rubiales kiss scandal’ that shook Spanish football following the 2023 World Cup, had previously experienced disappointment in Liga MX finals with both Tigres and her former team, Pachuca.
“Third time’s the charm, and you can’t imagine how happy this trophy makes me,” said the former Barcelona star following the match.
“Truly, this is one of the most meaningful [titles] because being away from your home and family for so long has been tough… I promised myself I wouldn’t leave Mexico without winning a trophy, and today I am leaving fulfilled.”
Tigres shared a photo on Instagram of Hermoso kissing the trophy, captioning: “The World Champion is now the Champion of Mexico!”
Hermoso, Spain’s all-time leading scorer, will temporarily pause her title celebrations as she travels to Madrid on Monday to join the national team.
Spain is set to challenge Germany in the Nations League two-legged final, with the first match scheduled for Friday in Kaiserslautern and the return leg on December 2 in Madrid.

Hermoso was integral to Spain’s World Cup victory in 2023, but during the post-match celebrations, she was subjected to an unsolicited kiss from former Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales.
This year, Rubiales was convicted by a Spanish court for sexually assaulting Hermoso.
After a period away from the national team since 2024 for what the coach termed “technical reasons,” Hermoso has recently returned to the squad.
