Joey Barton Allegedly…

Joey Barton, the former midfielder, has been charged with assault near a golf club in Liverpool.

Merseyside Police reported that the 43-year-old, hailing from Widnes, faces allegations of section 18 wounding with intent, along with a co-accused, Gary O’Grady, 50, from Huyton.

Emergency services responded around 9 PM on Sunday after a man sustained severe injuries to his face and body close to Huyton and Prescot Golf Club.

The injured individual is currently hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

Barton and O’Grady are scheduled to appear at Wirral Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday afternoon.

In a separate matter at a High Court hearing concerning a libel claim against Barton, Gervase de Wilde, representing former England player Eni Aluko, revealed that his solicitor received a call from a duty solicitor at a Liverpool police station shortly before the hearing commenced.

Mr. de Wilde informed the court that Barton was arrested the day prior and is presently in custody.

Once a player for Manchester City and QPR, Barton earned one cap for England and had stints with Newcastle, Rangers, Burnley, and Marseille.

He currently hosts the podcast “Common Sense With Joey Barton,” which offers an unfiltered perspective on various topics in sports, society, and politics.
