Harry Kane netted his 30th club goal of the season as Bayern Munich overcame a crisis of injuries and illnesses to dominate Heidenheim with a 4-0 victory on Sunday, securing a nine-point lead as they head into the Bundesliga‘s winter break.
Kane’s stoppage-time goal brought his tally to 30 in 25 matches across all competitions for Bayern this season, with 19 scored in the Bundesliga. This goal also marked his 100th contribution (81 goals, 19 assists) in the German league, making him the quickest player to reach this milestone in the top flight of German football.
The England captain achieved this remarkable feat in just 78 appearances, breaking the previous record of 119 set by Netherlands legend Arjen Robben for reaching 100 goal contributions.
After the match, Kane shared on social media: “Ending the year on a high! Great performance today to round off a brilliant start to the season. On a personal note, I’m delighted to lead the boys out as captain and reach 100 goal contributions in the Bundesliga. Time to recover over the winter break and go again in 2026.”
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany was forced to field a youthful bench due to injuries to several key players, including captain Manuel Neuer and Joshua Kimmich, alongside a suspension for Konrad Laimer, the absence of Nicolas Jackson for the Africa Cup of Nations, and illness affecting three players.
The starting players ensured that the match was under control long before any substitutions were necessary.
Bayern struck first through a combination of defenders, with Jonathan Tah flicking on a corner for Josip Stanisic to head in.
Heidenheim’s supporters had hoped for a top-division reprieve, displayed via a giant banner proclaiming it as “our Christmas wish,” but their team failed to register a single shot on target, ending the match in 17th position in the 18-team Bundesliga.
Bayern’s second goal showcased the defensive blunders that have plagued Heidenheim this season, with defender Patrick Mainka colliding with his goalkeeper, leading to chaos in the box until Michael Olise poked it into the net.
Luis Díaz sealed the victory with a header from Stanisic’s cross in the 86th minute, before Kane capped the scoring at 4-0.
Bayern remains unbeaten against German teams since March, boasting a record of 13 wins and 2 draws from 15 Bundesliga matches this season, with an average of over 3.6 goals per league game.
Borussia Dortmund sits in second place, nine points behind Kompany’s side, while Bayer Leverkusen and Leipzig trail by three additional points.
In another Sunday match, new Mainz manager Urs Fischer remains unbeaten in four games across all competitions following a goalless draw with St. Pauli, who currently sit 16th.
