Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappé has confirmed that he feels fully fit to play for the France national team despite a minor ankle concern earlier this week.
The forward addressed the media ahead of France’s World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan, sharing updates on his condition and mindset.
“There Won’t Be a Problem,” Says Mbappé
Mbappé has been managing light ankle discomfort since Monday but reassured supporters that the issue is “nothing serious.”
He missed a few full-training sessions but praised Real Madrid for allowing him to report for national-team duty.
“I want to play. And the coach wants me to play, so I think there won’t be any big problem,” Mbappé said.
“I feel like I’m in good shape. The coach and I talk a lot. I’ll train today — this will be the final test. I’m not worried.”
The 25-year-old was substituted in the 82nd minute of Real Madrid’s match against Villarreal after feeling discomfort in his right ankle.
His call-up by Didier Deschamps raised some eyebrows, yet Mbappé has now returned to partial training with the French squad.
A Rejuvenated Mbappé
Following his debut season in Madrid — where he finished as the club’s top scorer — Mbappé believes he has rediscovered his rhythm.
“It’s a new season, and I was able to prepare well. I started strongly, but this is just the beginning,” he explained.
“With the national team, we were quite serious. I scored goals, and I’m in good shape in terms of performance. I’m working to be better.”
Mbappé is expected to feature against Azerbaijan and continues to chase Olivier Giroud’s record as France’s all-time top scorer.
Giroud currently leads with 57 goals, while Mbappé stands on 52.
Closing in on Giroud’s Record
When asked about the milestone, Mbappé stayed calm and focused on team success.
“I’m not setting myself a limit. I want to equal it — maybe tomorrow, who knows? The most important thing is to qualify for the World Cup,” he said.
“When it happens, I’ll be happy and move on to the next challenge.”
Settled Life in Madrid
The French captain ended the press conference by reflecting on his adjustment to Spain and how it has helped him grow.
“On the pitch, you can have difficult years where you don’t settle in. In life, I’ve settled in Madrid. I’m more relaxed,” he said.
“It’s part of a player’s development. I managed to get back to my best. We’re only at the start of the season, and there’s still a lot to prove.”
