Leeds Closing in on $53M…

Leeds United are nearing a deal for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, sources say.

The England international is expected to join Elland Road for an initial fee of £40 million following productive discussions between the two clubs. City will reportedly seek a replacement if Trafford departs this summer.

Interest has also come from Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Aston Villa, but Leeds are leading the chase for his transfer.

Trafford is eager for more playing time after a disappointing season at the Etihad Stadium where he made only four Premier League appearances following his return from Burnley.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was the starting goalkeeper for much of the season, leaving Trafford to mainly participate in domestic cup competitions. He played in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals, as City rounded off the season with two trophies.

Leeds are in search of a new goalkeeper after Karl Darlow transferred to Manchester United and Illan Meslier moved to Arsenal.

Meanwhile, City are reportedly close to finalizing new contracts for Josko Gvardiol and Jérémy Doku.

The club announced on Saturday that defender Abdukodir Khusanov has signed an extension until 2031. Additionally, Phil Foden has also secured a new deal until 2030, with an option for another year.
