Nandy told the BBC she wants Gianni Infantino to step down over his Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) plan, which would sell stakes in the World Cup and other tournaments to private investors.
She said she supports the English FA’s view that football belongs to its supporters and that it’s time for change at Fifa.
Nandy added that Infantino’s time is up and he should leave his post.
However, she said she would not back a boycott of the Under-20 World Cup.
She explained that she generally opposes sporting boycotts because they divide people and unfairly punish athletes who are not responsible for the issues at hand.
Instead, she called for the game to come together to resolve the situation, with new leadership, a new direction, and a clear message that football belongs to its fans—and that women and girls should not be penalised as the women’s game continues to thrive, led by the Lionesses.
Former Fifa Council member Moya Dodd told BBC 5 Live that protecting the entire football pyramid is essential.
She said women’s football is at a pivotal stage of professionalisation, creating full-time roles for players—an important transformation.
But she warned that if leagues and clubs aren’t given space to grow, and are repeatedly disrupted to accommodate an expanding slate of commercially lucrative Fifa competitions, their development will be held back.
Dodd argued that proper governance requires all affected stakeholders at the decision-making table, whereas Fifa Congress currently represents a narrow set of interests.
Meanwhile, football governance expert Jane Purdon told BBC Sport she is concerned about how much power the Fifa president has been allowed to accumulate.
She noted that when he took office in 2016 he flew EasyJet to his first Fifa meeting in Wales and said officials should be “normal people,” asking what happened to that version of him.
