Liverpool add Japan…

Liverpool have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Mao Itamura from Feyenoord.

At 19, she becomes the fifth summer recruit to Gareth Taylor’s squad, coming in for Republic of Ireland’s Denise O’Sullivan, who joined Gotham FC on an initial loan.

Itamura won the Women’s Eredivisie Player of the Season award in 2025-26, netting eight goals and providing six assists for Feyenoord.

She played a key role in Feyenoord’s first-ever qualification for European competition and was part of Japan’s U-20 squad that lifted the Women’s Asian Cup in April.

Itamura said the league and the club had long been among her ambitions and that she is delighted to join.

She added that after achieving her aim of becoming a professional footballer, her next target was to play for her favourite team.

She is thrilled to have the opportunity to represent Liverpool, a club she regards as a major force.

Itamura began her career in Japan with JFA Academy Fukushima before moving to Feyenoord in January 2025.

She will take the No. 26 shirt and follows Vivien Endemann, Sara Agrez, Mari Ward and Khiara Keating in joining Liverpool this summer.
