Arne Slot has announced that striker Alexander Isak will likely be out for “a couple of months” after suffering a broken leg during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham.
The injury occurred while Isak was scoring Liverpool’s first goal against Spurs on Saturday, following a heavy challenge from defender Micky van de Ven inside the penalty area.
The Swedish international underwent successful surgery on his broken ankle and fibula on Monday. Although the club has not set a specific timeline for his return, there are hopes he could be back before the end of the season.
“This will be a long recovery; we’re looking at a few months,” Slot stated. “It’s a significant disappointment for him and for all of us.”
Isak’s injury poses a substantial setback for Liverpool, who are already missing Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah, the latter currently competing for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.
When asked about the possibility of signing another forward in the January transfer window, Slot responded, “My primary focus is on the next two games against Wolves and Leeds United. Both will be tough matches, and playing at home is a positive.”
“Now is the time for our available players to step up and give their all, as they have in the past. Our fans also need to come together to support us in achieving the results we want in these upcoming matches. Therefore, it’s crucial for all available players to put in maximum effort, alongside our ever-supportive fans. That is where my focus lies.”

Additionally, defender Conor Bradley was also injured during the match against Tottenham. Moreover, Joe Gomez and Wataru Endo are also unavailable for selection.
“Conor will be a 50/50 chance for the Wolves match,” Slot noted. “He isn’t training with us today or tomorrow. We’ll assess his situation on Friday to determine if he can be included in the squad for the weekend. Joe and Wataru will not be available, and Cody’s situation is similar to that of Conor.”
